A history of James Bond watches: what makes 007 tick?

With the latest James Bond film commanding the lion’s share of attention in the world of cinema, we bring you the inside story on 007’s favoured timepieces. Shop the look:

Mr. Bond uses the Omega Seamaster watch to time his breathless, non stop adventures from Mexico City via Austria and Morocco. Flexing his abs in his fourth Bond adventure, Daniel Craig incarnates the most famous British agent in the 24th Bond saga and watch fanatics will get their first glimpse of his timepiece. There is no surprise regarding the brand of the watch ever since Omega secured a franchise to time the spy’s missions in 1995. While hunting down the agents of Spectre, Bond wears an Omega Seamaster 300 Spectre dive watch, complete with a NATO style strap that is resilient to the harmful force of magnetism. For the first time in the history of Bond watches, Omega has made this watch specifically for the film as well as offering for sale a limited edition of 7,007 identical models for sale for a price of €6,400.

For many fans, Omega is the brand they associate with Bond, but Bond aficionados will know that the original Bond wore a Rolex. Creator of the Bond character Ian Fleming was very precise in his choice of every detail of the fictional secret agents attire, and watches were no exception. The original James Bond as brought to life by Sean Connery in Dr. No in 1962 wore a Rolex Submariner. It was a perfect match: the world’s first dive watch – a resilient yet elegant piece to accompany the rugged yet elegant 007 on his adventures. Connery wore the Rolex Submariner watch throughout his seven screen appearances, and the watch became so associated with Bond that collectors today still refer to this model as the James Bond Submariner watch.

Buy Louis Vuitton Chevron jewellery watch:

The catwalk has clearly been a major influence on the new Louis Vuitton watches for ladies, particularly the new Chevron models, which were created under the guidance of Vuitton’s creative director, Nicolas Ghesquière. The famous Monogram V featured heavily in Ghesquière’s Summer 2015 ready-to-wear catwalk collection and this pattern has been replicated on red and black watch dials, framed by scintillating diamonds.

The trend for diamond watches continues at Chanel with the latest incarnations of the Première Flying Tourbillon, which pays tribute the life of the legendary Coco Chanel. Available in Chanel’s very own beige gold, set with brilliant-cut diamonds, and a black ceramic model with vivid blue baguette-cut sapphires, the flying tourbillon movement on these new Chanel watches is decorated with a small camellia, Mademoiselle Chanel’s favourite flower.

The house of Dior has looked to the past for inspiration for its new collection of Dior watches for women, which pay tribute to Monsieur Dior’s 1948 Spring-Summer collection and Envol line of couture clothing. The VIII Grand Bal Envol collection of Dior watches, offered in a myriad of bright colours, are set with diamonds, tsavorites, ink spinels and, most impressively, the fiery wings of a scarab beetle.
